Hillary Clinton Win in West Virginia Put Smile on Her Face

Hillary Clinton is desperate for a win to put the people who ask her to quit for a rest. So her big win in West Virginia primary gives her the such satisfaction. With votes from 69 percent of West Virginia's precincts counted, Clinton was winning 66 percent of the vote, to 27 percent for Obama.

Clinton won at least 16 of the 28 delegates at stake in West Virginia and Obama won at least seven, with five more to be allocated.

Final Results

Running in a state tailored to her strengths -- with a large turnout of white, rural and working-class voters -- Clinton posted one of her biggest winning margins. With nearly all of the vote counted, she was leading Obama 67% to 26%.

Obama, who would be the first black U.S. president, retains a nearly unassailable advantage in delegates who will select the nominee at the party convention in August. West Virginia had only 28 delegates at stake.

Only 1.1% of the state's residents were foreign-born, placing West Virginia last among the 50 states in that statistic. It has the lowest percentage of residents that speak a language other than English in the home (2.7%).

The five largest ancestry groups in West Virginia are: American (23.2%), German (17.2%), Irish (13.5%) (Most actually Scots-Irish), English (12%), Italian (4.8%).
