Palau Celebrates 27th Constitutional Day and Olechotel Belau Fair 2008 Olechotel Belau Fair (OBF) is an annual event that is held each year with the Palau Constitutional Day. A Presidential Proclamation was issued by the President of the Republic of Palau to set the day for OBF to be held on July 10th, a day after the 27th Constitutional Day on July 9th so that activities for both days will run concurrently. “Olechotel” is a Palauan word that literally means to exhibit, showcase, or to show. Thus the OBF is an opportunity for the 16-States of Palau to come together and display their unique arts and crafts, dances, and specialty dishes as well as music contest and flora. PVA and the Ministry of Community and Cultural Affairs are the official host and co-host of this annual fair. The 2009 event will be July 9th as the 28th Constitutional Day and July 10th OBF festivities (date may change). Obelisk In 1589, Pope Sixtus V had an Egyptian obelisk moved from the Circus Maximus to the center of the square. The 23,2m/73ft high obelisk was originally built in 1300 BC and was taken from the Sun Temple in Heliopolis in 10 BC by the Roman Emperor Augustus. The obelisk was erected at the Circus Maximus to commemorate the conquest of Egypt.
