Palau Celebrates 27th Constitutional Day and Olechotel Belau Fair 2008
Olechotel Belau Fair (OBF) is an annual event that is held each year with the Palau Constitutional Day. A Presidential Proclamation was issued by the President of the Republic of Palau to set the day for OBF to be held on July 10th, a day after the 27th Constitutional Day on July 9th so that activities for both days will run concurrently. “Olechotel” is a Palauan word that literally means to exhibit, showcase, or to show. Thus the OBF is an opportunity for the 16-States of Palau to come together and display their unique arts and crafts, dances, and specialty dishes as well as music contest and flora. PVA and the Ministry of Community and Cultural Affairs are the official host and co-host of this annual fair. The 2009 event will be July 9th as the 28th Constitutional Day and July 10th OBF festivities (date may change).
Palau Jungle River Boat Cruise
On July 2nd, the Palau Visitors Authority Management and associates went on a tour on one of Palau’s newest attraction, the Jungle River Boat Cruise. Located in Ngchesar State, the Jungle River Boat Cruise is one of Palau’s Eco-friendly tours giving clients an ideal way to relax and see nature firsthand. The River Boat Cruise is the brainchild of Mr. Billy Takamine, who is a native of Ngchesar State. The River Boat Cruise takes about one hour back and forth on an all-aluminum boat that can carry up to 40 passengers at a time, depending on the tides of the river. The tour starts at the main dock and goes upstream coming out to the ocean that is approximately 5 miles long with 2.5 mile each way.
