Selma Alabama Selects Yusuf Salaam State Representative

Deep in the south and in the middle part of Alabama and in Selma the sight of one of the most celebrated civil right marches lead by Martin Luther the civil right leader this Selma and Dallas county had selected a Moslem Yusuf Salaam to be their state representative at Montgomery. The county is made of 47% white they are solidly Baptists, while the Moslems less than one percent. Yusuf Salaam got lot of the white folks votes along with those of blacks. So his win was exemplary by the fact he over came the religious and color issue. Yusuf Salaam is the son and grand son of Baptist preachers but he felt that Islam fill his personal spiritual needs.
