THE WAR ON MOSQUES IN GERMANY, FRANCE AND BRITAIN
The war on mosques is in full steam in Germany, France and Britain. In Germany the war on mosques is taking an ugly dimension with the right wingers taking to the streets to demonstrate against building a mosque with two minarets at the ancient crusader city of Cologne, the hub of fanatic Catholicism. The archbishop of the city Joachim Meisner, said at interview on Deutschlandfunk radio that the construction of the mosque would make him "feel unwell" and the "immigration of Muslims has created a breach in our German, European culture."
The ultra conservative bigot Mainz Cardinal Karl Lehmann, head of the German Bishops Conference, upset Muslims by saying Germany should not show "uncritical tolerance" and treat Islam like other religions. He went further showing his hate by saying that the proposed mosque two minarets will change Cologne sky line, which is utter nonsense is not allowed in the city proper but in the city outlay suburb.
Ralph Giordano, a prominent Jew German writer and islampobe, demanded that the mosque not be built and added to his anti-moslem bigotry that "I don't want to meet burqas and chadors on German streets nor do I want to hear the call of the muezzin from towering minarets," Giordano, 84, wrote in a commentary for the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung daily. Incidentally Cologne is famous for its 750-year-old cathedral with its two 515-foot landmark steeples and 12 Romanesque churches, but a mosque in the city is the ultimate tragedy.
The Moslems also are denied mosques in an Eastern Berlin district and other regions and cities across the Germany. In France at the cities of Marseilles and Montpelier Moslems were denied Mosques building permits. It is worth noting that mosques in France are invariably back alley shabby rooms in slum areas. In Britain which tradition of more tolerance the oppositions are mounting against building a mosque near the 2008 London Olympic proposed site. So the idea of freedom of religion and worship in these European countries, who never stop bragging about their alleged freedoms and freedom of religion and chastising others, is obviously a farce and sick joke. In the mean time the ultra-secular press in the Moslem world and the Arab countries do not raise any fuss for this appalling mess muslems are faced with in Germany, France and Britain.
